Who doesn’t love breakfast? The smell of bacon, butter smothered toast, hash browns or deliciously fluffy pancakes!! Then top it off by having someone else make it for you?! Yes Please!!
Ok, not everyone is into breakfast, and maybe not all of that is the healthiest, but once in a while, those breakfasts are awesome! We just happen to be those people that DO love all of those things every so often and tend to cherish the times when we hit up a great diner or breakfast joint to start off our day!
Pittsburgh just happens to be known for amazing restaurants and is a fantastic destination for foodies. Here are our top 3 Breakfast destinations. Keep in mind that these are also a lot of other peoples top places too so they tend to get super busy and you may have to wait. Please.. do wait… it’s worth it.
Pamelas was the first place my husband took me to when I moved to Pittsburgh and we were planning a day in the city. They actually have 6 locations now all over the Pittsburgh area, but our most frequently visited ones are either in the Strip District or Mt Lebanon. They also have spots in Shady Side, Millvale, Squirrel Hill, and Oakland. They have all the usual suspects you would find on a diner menu from eggs to pancakes, but what they are known for is their crepe style hotcakes. I honestly am beginning to drool thinking about them. They are thin, buttery, with these amazing crispy edges, and THEN they fill them with fruit and whipped cream on top. To Die For! Their bacon is thick and cooked just right, not dried up but not limp and their potatoes are excellent. Be sure to stop by one of their locations when you are in the area and you will not be disappointed. But please do take note, they are CASH ONLY, no debit or credit cards accepted.

Next stop is also another Strip District Favorite DeLuca’s. This too has a standing room line out the door most weekend mornings and well worth it. I have typically ordered their omelets and let me tell you, this guy will hold you over for hours, it’s massive. They have many different styles of French toast, pancakes, breakfast burritos, you name it. Their menu has something on it for everyone with many choices. But don’t shy away if you missed breakfast, they serve lunch as well with “sky-high” sandwiches. Deluca’s is also a cash-only establishment in their Strip District store, but they also have another location in Robinson if you are outside of the city.
Our third option is again in the Strip and another fantastic stop, Kelly-O’s. You may have seen them on Diner’s Drive-ins and Dives when they only had their North Hills location. Since that appearance, however, and let’s face it, because they are so good, they opened their second location in the Strip. Both are equally fantastic and as with the other two stops, you will almost always see a line out the door. Kelly O’s, however, does take credit and debit cards as well as cash. Their food is fantastic and served fast. With lines out the door, they have to keep things moving and they are great at it. They have a full lunch menu also if you are looking for a great burger or sandwich.
Stop by any one of these places when visiting Pittsburgh and the surrounding area and tell them we sent ya! If you are visiting here or maybe even live here and you have a favorite breakfast spot, let us know! We love hearing from our readers and are always up for trying a new place.
